I am Gavin Sandford founder of www.ICanandIWill.co.uk I am an ex Soldier that now works in Operating Theatres. I am a Charity Ambassador, Adventurer & Endurance Athlete. I am Polar, Jungle and Mountain Medic trained.
Through experiences in my life I have often been inspired by the attitude of ‘I Can and I Will‘ from others whom are fighting through great struggles of adversity and it was that attitude that inspired me to try to aid others most in need by inventing, coordinating and competing in various extreme I Can And I Will charity endurance events.
In 2016 I became the 1st person in history to run a double back to back Marathons des Sables. A 500km run through the Sahara (the single alone is known as the ‘Toughest Footrace on Earth) In 2015 I ran solo for 1200 miles covering 45 marathons over 45 days through the UK whilst pushing a 50kg Oak Barrel.
I am a regular attendee to the Royal Geographical Society’s Annual Explore show. The show presents talks by the world’s adventurers. I met Snugpak and their team there showing off their wide range of products.
I was already familiar with Snugpak from my Army days when I used their amazing Softie sleeping bags whilst on tours of duty. That sleeping bag literally saved my life on countless occasions. You know a sleeping bag is the best when you get out of it and you’re feeling toasty warm and all the rest of your gear has frozen solid.
Snugpak has a rare pedigree in that they are one of the last manufacturers in the UK (based in Silsden) and Europe who make quality sleeping bags, insulated clothing and accessories which simply puts them a notch above their competitors and provides their customers unparalleled service and equipment. Snugpak have supported many great causes and events such as the Royal Navy and charitable mountain challenges.
I approached Snugpak knowing all that I do about them. I know that my pursuits in life need equipment and customer service that will look after and see me safely through any journey I undertake.
It was obvious from the get-go that I had made the right call in approaching them. The team are very like minded and approachable and have a dynamic ‘I Can and I Will‘ attitude about their products and services and were excited about my ambitions and the “Mad” events that I do and have planned. I often jump in the car and drive overnight to get to far-flung areas to then spend days training, hiking and running in treacherous conditions and often find myself in places where no others are. A potentially dangerous pursuit and lifestyle which in 2017 will see me training very hard in these UK’s Mountainous regions to compete in various events globally.
To name a few events, I aim to run the famous 120km Trans Gran Canaria race. To complete the iconic extreme 24 hour, 66 mile and 45 peaks, Lake District ‘Bob Graham’ round. I aim to cycle John O’Groats to Lands End whilst also including the 3 Peaks challenge. There are two Charity I Can And I Will overseas events: (details to be released soon).
With these plans of mine and a glint in my eyes, a relationship was born. Here I am now the proudest Snugpak Brand Ambassador.
I look forward to really pushing myself and Snugpaks gear to beyond the limit. I am inspired and proud by being part of their amazing team and look forward to helping them develop products and inform others of their exciting and growing product range.
