Take a look inside Snugpak HQ

by Snugpak March 06, 2023 in News 0 comments
Did you know you can take a tour of the Snugpak factory? Now we cannot let you all in but we do have a video showing you around our 1800s listed mill site. Our products are proudly manufactured in Silsden*, West Yorkshire, before being sent out for adventures across the globe. We are one of the only companies that still manufacturers sleeping bags and outdoor clothing not just in the UK, but across Europe as well. We started out manufacturing from a small unit before expanding to distribute worldwide. See how we combine bespoke machinery with the traditional approach of skilled sewing machinists stitching jackets, sleeping bags and more together. Before it leaves the factory, every garment and product is inspected to ensure it has been produced to the highest standards by our quality control team. A lot has changed since our founder Brett Harris taught himself to sew at his kitchen table but that same handmade touch remains in our process to this day. Our mission is to help more people enjoy their outdoor experiences by using Snugpak products and to become a trusted outdoor brand that is accessible to everyone. Now see it with your own eyes and […] Read more!

by Snugpak March 06, 2023 in News 0 comments
From Monday 25 May to Sunday 31 May, it’s National Camping and Caravanning Week. Being big into camping, we’re looking forward to it! The Camping and Caravanning Club are focusing on ‘getting kids camping’ which is something we definitely support. Camping is a great way to get the kids outdoors and to spend some quality time together away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life (and computer games). The Club has conducted research into the positive benefits of camping in tents, caravans or motorhomes on children’s practical abilities, confidence and energy levels and will be revealing the results during the awareness week – we’ll keep you updated. So how to make the most out of National Camping Week? Firstly, you need to decide on where you want to go. Think about how far you wish to travel, how many of you there will be, what sort of holiday you are looking for i.e. active, relaxing, seaside, country. Once you have the basic information you can then research the relevant areas. Useful websites such as http://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/ukcampsites/ will help you identify the perfect camping spot for your holiday. Whatever kind of trip it maybe, there are certain essentials you will need, […] Read more!

Prioritised as an important skill for anyone venturing to the outdoors, the ability to create immediate or delayed effective ground to air rescue signals is essential. Rescue aircraft, technicians and search operatives are taught to search for rescue signs and signals and locating them could help save your life. In this article, Snugpaks ambassador, Perry McGee from the National Tracking School, again gives us extracts from his latest publication “The Essential Tracking Handbook” and illustrates how simple objects, including Snugpak kit, can be utilised to create useful rescue and survival skills. Tips For Ground To Air Signalling The subject of survival or how to initiate rescue throughout differing environments, is perhaps too large for a publication of this nature and when venturing into the outdoors, further research is always recommended. For those of us who regularly venture outdoors however, it is vital to remember the necessity for rescue signally can happen anywhere and it can happen to anyone. It is fact that unforeseen accidents do occur, usually when you do not want them to, and it is very important to have rescue procedures and plans in place. For most of us, rescue is thankfully a rarity and although amazing accounts […] Read more!

IMPROVISED EMERGENCY STRETCHER – USING SNUGPAK KIT

by Snugpak April 26, 2017 in Brand Ambassadors, News 0 comments
Unforeseen accidents can occur anywhere in the world and especially in the great outdoors, where situations can quickly develop and deteriorate. In extreme circumstances, removing a casualty from a dangerous location may be necessary to save a casualty’s life. In this article, our Snugpak ambassador “Perry McGee” from the National Tracking School, shows us a useful survival technique, taken from his latest publication of how to create an emergency stretcher, utilising Snugpak equipment and a climbing rope. As far back as I can remember, I was always taught that when the circumstances get extreme and it becomes necessary, most kit can be easily improvised in some way and there is no better example, of this than improvising a simple effective stretcher, using a roll mat, Snugpak sleeping bag and climbing rope or improvised cordage. Not to be confused with camping beds, improvised stretchers can quickly be adapted for use by 4-6 rescuers and are used to carefully carry and relocate a casualty from a set of life-threatening circumstances to a nearby place of safety. Patient care is always essential and the casualty should not be relocated unless it is absolutely necessary and only to prevent the threat or loss of […] Read more!

Understanding Wet Out – Humidity & Condensation

by Snugpak November 30, 2015 in Articles 0 comments
Regardless of what you wear over your Snugpak® Insulating layers, it may come as no surprise, that all PTFE garments will eventually ‘wet-out’ in sustained and heavy rainfall, or in warmer conditions when there is an increase in humidity. Wetting outis essentially a build up of condensation on the inside of (waterproof) layers that prevents evaporation and transportation of moisture to the atmosphere.      Humidity is the amount of invisible Water Vapour contained within the atmosphere around you. There are two key elements to clothing wetting out; firstly, the ability for the waterproof (PTFE) layer to shed liquid water from the membrane, and this is best achieved with the application of a Durable Waterproof Repellant (DWR) on the outer clothing to prevent build up of water, allowing rain to bead and roll off the fabric. Secondly, the relative humidity and temperature between the inner and outer layers of clothing will affect the ability to transport water vapour (sweat) from clothing layers to the atmosphere. Most 2 and 3 layer PTFE Waterproof Garments have a DWR finish that beads water and prevents saturation of the exterior or face fabric. The PTFE breathable layer is protected by the face and interior […] Read more!
