National Camping and Caravanning Week.

From Monday 25 May to Sunday 31 May, it’s National Camping and Caravanning Week. Being big into camping, we’re looking forward to it!

The Camping and Caravanning Club are focusing on ‘getting kids camping’ which is something we definitely support. Camping is a great way to get the kids outdoors and to spend some quality time together away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life (and computer games). The Club has conducted research into the positive benefits of camping in tents, caravans or motorhomes on children’s practical abilities, confidence and energy levels and will be revealing the results during the awareness week – we’ll keep you updated.

So how to make the most out of National Camping Week? Firstly, you need to decide on where you want to go. Think about how far you wish to travel, how many of you there will be, what sort of holiday you are looking for i.e. active, relaxing, seaside, country. Once you have the basic information you can then research the relevant areas. Useful websites such as will help you identify the perfect camping spot for your holiday.

Whatever kind of trip it maybe, there are certain essentials you will need, and that’s sleeping gear. Nothing ruins a get-away then being tired and narky! Outdoor sleeping equipment has come a long way over the years so with the right gear, you should have a great night’s sleep.

Temperatures at night can vary and if you have children with you, they are more prone to these changes. Make sure you have suitable sleeping bags for them. We have a specific
selection of quality sleeping bags for kids.

The comfort of your own pillow from home often helps people to drift off. That includes taking the kid’s pillows if you’re on a family holiday.
Sleeping mats are essential for a good night’s sleep to make sure you wake up ready for the day. They provide an extra barrier between you and the floor to help keep you warm. We have a selection with various specifications depending on what you need.
Having the right clothing makes all the difference. It can get very cold during the night (even in summer) so we suggest a good pair of socks – which is a sure way to keep you snug – but also good base layers help. Often when the sun starts to rise, the temperature does too, so layers help as you can take clothing off when it starts to get too hot.

We know some people don’t like the thought of camping, so there are alternatives such as caravanning or, why not try something completely different and go glamping? This is a trend that has gained momentum over the past couple of years providing a great balance between enjoying the great outdoors with all the luxuries that you get at home.
