The resourceful Snugpak Responsepak – some things are just best left unchanged.

The ResponsePak is one of Snugpaks finest achievements and its design has not altered since its initial development. In this review, our ambassador internationally renowned tracker Perry McGee from the UK National Tracking School extolls its virtues and tells us how they have adapted it for use in the fascinating world of tracking.

For me, they certainly got it right when they designed this bit of kit – it is simply, off the chart.

The aptly named and very useful Snugpak “response” pack, does exactly what it was designed for. They are functional; lightweight, inexpensive, robust and a useful addition for anyone using the outdoors.

Over the years and throughout my many exploits, I have always used at least one ResponsePak and can attest, that they are both useful and reliable. On occasions, I have utilised them for carrying medications; image recording equipment, ammunition, survival equipment and in the jungle, it usually gets stuffed with vegetation and used as a pillow.

My own personal ResponsePak (owned for over ten years) has never let me down and as a matter of routine, it always travels with me, wherever I go searching and is a constant companion. Its simplistic design was without doubt, pioneering and as I have found out, its many applications can be adapted to suit all manner of situations.

As the National Tracking School developed, we utilised the ResponsePak and soon found that they became an essential tool. Indeed, they are now a common sight on courses, where students are teaching and learning about sign awareness.

To begin any assessment, let’s start with the product quality, it is superbly robust and due to its design, it has multiple functions, connectors and pouches, all of which allows its user to adapt it to a wide variety of situations. Its cost is variant and mostly dependent on where they are sourced and they are normally manufactured in the colours black, olive and coyote tan (useful for tracking and search and rescue). Weighing in at around 400 grams, and made to a useable size, the water-resistant Responsepak provides a resourceful addition to any military or civilian search and rescue use.
